PERTH LEARNING HUB 2012 Classes will be held at the Wembley Downs Scout Hall on Dover Crescent and will run from 9.30 to 1.00 on Tuesdays. We plan 8 weeks of classes for Term 1 and classes will start on 14 February.
Perth Learning Hub – 2012 Calendar
* Our new art teacher plans to explore different media
(including charcoal drawing, inks, acrylics and pottery) with the art
students. Art fees will be $12 per hour (including materials). There
will be a single $10 additional cost later in the year (not in Term 1)
when canvas and acrylic paints need to be purchased. We are letting you
know now, so that you can plan for that.
·
Each student will be
required to contribute $5 per term towards the hiring of the
hall.
·
History 2 and Geography 2 are only available to students who have
completed the first level of those courses OR those who are 14+.
·
Art A will run at the same time as History 1/Geography 1, so
students cannot take both. The same goes for Geography 2 and Psychology
1, and for English Literature 2 and Art B.
·
Students will need to bring a substantial snack for the 15 min
break at 11.00.
·
There is a pleasant park behind the hall and parents might want to
supervise students there for, say, a picnic lunch after classes.
Thank you once again for your support during the past year. Looking
forward to working together again in 2012.
Fees are payable in advance and are due on the specified dates (at the beginning of term and then halfway through term). No exceptions. You will lose your place in the group if you default on payments. It has been an ongoing problem and Elsa is no longer willing or able to carry the financial burden. Thank you to those who always pay on time! Payment details available in the group emails.
As the Hub is geared towards older students, parents do not normally stay for lessons. We'll make an exception for
students of primary school age if parents feel the need to stay.
However, we ask parents to conduct conversations out of earshot to
minimise distraction. It is not an environment in which parents
participate or in which siblings can roam freely. There is a park behind
the hall with plenty of space for children to play. So in short, if your child is
11-12 years old, you can stay if you want to, but if there are siblings
involved, please take them outside the moment they become a distraction.
Some students won’t notice a racket, whereas others can’t concentrate
with even the slightest noise in the background.
We’ll set up a table inside the hall where Hub students can work quietly if they arrive a few minutes before their class or if they have to wait for parents for a few minutes after class. This will only work if these periods are short, as childcare is not part of what we offer. These students will have to be very quiet so as not to interrupt the lesson in progress. We have made special
arrangements with a couple of the older students in the group to stay on
for an hour while waiting for their next class. If you are in this
position, contact Elsa to discuss this. Don't just assume that it is OK
to stay.
All queries to Lila or Elsa, please. Are you interested in online classes (for remote students and those who simply want to do some online classes)? Let us know. |
